Goblin Race Sessions

Drag Races

Each car will be positioned with the front wheels of the car touching the Starting Line. One pusher, which must be in Grades 4-6, will await the signal to start the race. On that signal, the pusher will have 10 feet to push their car.

At the end of the 10 feet, the pusher will release the car and the car will speed down the remaining 110 feet, driving in a straight line, under its own power. After crossing the Finish Line, the driver will apply the brakes and bring the car to a controlled stop.

Once the car has stopped safely, another team member will push the car to the next destination - each race may have different race event orders.

How is the race timed?

Time starts at the signal by the Race Official. Time stops as soon as the frontmost part of the car crosses the Finish Line.

How many times do we get to perform the Drag Race?

Each team will get at most four attempts at the Drag Race. Only the team's fastest time will be used in Event Scoring.

Race Event Dimensions (recommended)

Pushing Area - 10 feet; Racing Distance - 110 feet

Slalom Races

Each car will be positioned with the front wheels of the car touching the Starting Line. One pusher, which must be in Grades 4-6, will await the signal to start the race. On that signal, the pusher will have 10 feet to push their car.

At the end of the 10 feet, the pusher will release the car and the car will speed down the remaining 110 feet, weaving in and out of cones, under its own power. Traditionally, the driver will go to the left of the first cone, right of the second cone, left of the third cone, and right of the final cone. After crossing the Finish Line, the driver will apply the brakes and bring the car to a controlled stop.

Once the car has stopped safely, another team member will push the car to the next destination - each race may have different race event orders.

Circuit Races

A circuit race is simply put - a lap race. Each race site may construct a course of its own choosing, but it must be approved by a GreenpowerUSA official.

Each team completes a total of three laps typically. The timed lap is usually the second lap, but in rare cases, alternative timing systems may be implemented. In some circumstances, there is a different system for timing. When this happens, teams will be notified before the event starts.
